What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis Cis a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Hepatitis C is spread through contact with blood from an infected person. Today, most people become infected with the hepatitis C virus by sharing needles or other equipment used to prepare and inject drugs.


Who Should Consider Getting Screened?

  • Recommended for men and women 18+ at least once in their lifetime. Adults with recognized exposures should be tested more often.


Why Screening is Important

  • Chronic HCV infection does not cause symptoms in most people but can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

  • Hepatitis C can be cured if diagnosed and treated.
