Great River Health Systems and Burlington YMCA offer free week of Les Mills classes

Kick off your Super Bowl week by trying a free Les Mills fitness class at Great River Health System or the Burlington Area YMCA.

Les Mills International is the world's largest provider of choreographed exercise-to-music group fitness classes distributed to health clubs.

Great River Health System and the Burlington YMCA will offer three free Les Mills exercise programs throughout the week of Jan. 26 to 31. The programs are:

  • BodyCombat (offered at Great River Health System only) – This noncontact martial arts-based workout combines powerful moves from a range of self-defense disciplines, including karate, boxing, taekwondo and Muay Thai. BodyCombat provides the benefits of intense physical exercise with strength and agility training. The dynamic kicking and punching moves can also help reduce stress and boost a sense of well-being.
  • BodyPump (offered at both locations) – This 45- to 60-minute weight-based group-fitness program targets six muscle groups using weights plates, barbells and an aerobic step. The workout comprises a series of compound and isolation-based exercises including squats, presses and dead lifts, with a focus on muscle endurance.
  • Grit (offered at YMCA only) – Principles of high-intensity interval training drive this 30-minute training class. The class uses barbells, weight plates and body-weight exercises. The class works all major muscle groups.

Both classes are music-driven, and participants choose their weights based on the exercise and their goals. Subject to space availability, attendees may participate in or observe the free classes.

After Saturday, Jan. 31, members of the YMCA or Great River Health Fitness may attend classes at either location. There is a $5-per-session fee to attend classes at a nonmembership location.
